Pet Mandalas

I know that traditionally mandalas are suppose to be contemplative, meditative, peaceful.  However, I have found mandalas made up of pictures of people or pets are just fun and make me laugh.  And we all need a good laugh every now and then.  So here are a trio of pet mandalas I created from Amani, Blaze and Mojo.

Amani Mandala

Blaze Mandala

Mojo Mandala

The other two mandalas look fine, but the one of Mojo just really makes me giggle.  He looks like a furby or something from outer space.

Buzzard Kind of Day

It's one of those days.  When you don't really know if you are the buzzard or the bait.  So I took a picture I had taken a couple of days ago of a couple of buzzards by the side of the road and turned it into something a little prettier.  Not that buzzards are ugly.  I guess mother buzzards think her babies are cute.

Spring is Coming

Purple Crocus Mandala

Today is just a weird day.  I am in a state of flux anyway with the move coming up and not being able to establish a routine.  I am not rigid with my routine, but I like to have a flow to the day, and I haven't been 'flowing' lately.  Mainly I am just treading water it seems.

And the weather hasn't been much better.  One day it is in the 60's, the next day in the 40's.  But I can tell we are just a few days away from the first day of Spring (which will also be the day we head to Montana hopefully).  So this mandala was created from a picture of purple crocus coming up at the arboretum.  Very 'springy' and hopefully will put some 'spring' into my step.

Passionate About

I am doing Deepak Chopra and Oprah's 21 day Mediation Challenge.  And today's mediation was about finding balance and also finding something you are passionate about.  Besides, with a mantra like "Yum" it can't be bad, right.

But my passion right now is creating mandalas out of the pictures I take.  They don't take me long to create, maybe 30-45 minutes and the time invested is so soothing.  Picking out what portion of the picture I want to use, deciding how many wedges I want in the mandala are part of it.  But the real reward is when it is finished and the transformation from the picture (which was pretty on it's own) to the completed mandala is magical to me.

So here is today's mandala....a pink camellia, one of the few flowering plants in the winter.  Hardy to the ups and downs of winter weather, yet so beautiful in it's rose-like appearance.  A whole bush of blooming camellias is a delight in the gray days of winter.

Looking at a camellia is almost like looking at a mandala anyway.  The layers unfurl so symmetrically.
And this is my mandala........

Doorways

Doorways are interesting.  Essentially they are a way to go into and out of 'something'.  And there are also metaphorical doorways, as in 'when one doorway closes, another opens'.  Metaphorical doors seem to be everywhere these days for me.  Retirement, new baby in the family, a huge physical move, a project I am working on with someone, school, my own personal projects....the list sometimes seems endless.

But when I was at the arboretum last week, there were some doorways or entrances into different areas of the Japanese Garden area that were intriguing.

Ok, so this isn't Japanese, but it is a doorway of sorts.    Who wouldn't want to go sit in that gazebo on a summer day?

Sometimes the opening we have is small and we only get a glimpse of what we need to see.

Other times we get a whole vista for us to enjoy and comtemplate.

Other times we get to see only a portion of the path we need to follow and we have to trust we are on the right on.

And then other times we reach our destination just fine.

(Actually, that huge bell/windchime in the picture I lusted after.  Fortunately, or unfortunately, I will also about 6 feet long and there was no way I could stick it in my pocket and make off with it.)

So I am anticipating all my opening and closing doors with relish.

Pansies

While my heart is given mainly to old fashioned roses and lovely scented plants, the hard working pansy has always been a favorite of mine.  In fact, it typifies my current mantra "Choose Life Unafraid".

Pansies are popular this time of the year.  They are colorful, require little maintenance beyond planting and just brightly chug along.  They hang in there despite extreme fluctuations in temperatures during the winter into spring months, showing their cheerful little faces to the world.  I think that is an excellent philosophy to take away.

So here is to the bright, sunny pansy, hanging in there regardless of what is thrown at it during these winter months.

It's Over and Yet It's Just Beginning

On Tuesday I attended a wonderful luncheon hosted by American Airlines to celebrate my retirement.  Of course, there there 53 other people leaving too.  Then we went back to the office and they had cake and punch for the office so we could say goodbye to our co-workers.

I am the star on the right

So I am now officially on vacation pending my last day with AA on the 30th of March.  My retirement commences on the 01 April.  And right now with all that is going on in my life, I need to be not working.  There is the big move coming up.  A new baby in the family.  Lots of creative projects I want to accomplish for myself and a project I am helping someone with.

But after almost 34 years it is hard to walk away without a little glancing back.

New Life, New Look

Since I have now started my 'second childhood' (and I'm aiming for at least 3 or 4), I decided to redo my site and add sections to it rather than having everything thrown together.  There is a part of my 'virgo' brain which wants that separation.  And after playing with (actually it's a lot of work) the site, I think I like what I have accomplished so far.

I created my banner myself.  Had to put those Photoshop classes to some kind of use.  I still need to go add in the sites I visit under the appropriate labels, but that can wait a bit.  Maybe tomorrow.  I've run out of web design steam today.

A new dawning and change is on it's way.
