Home and Garden Friday - Spring is Springing!

I think just about everyone in the USA can agree on one thing - our weather over the past couple of months of 2026 has been wild!

Here in North Carolina, I was accusing my Montana buddies of sending their weather down to me and they took our weather. We have had measurable snow (almost a foot in my yard) and then the next week I have the windows open because it is 70 degrees.

This past Sunday I was FINALLY attempting to clean off and tidy up my front porch. I don't really have. anywhere else to do my gardening 'stuff'. I threw (literally) one side of the porch off into the yard. I now have a trash can full of things which needed to go and a slightly tidier table. However, just as I thought I might have more space, Foxy came home from a friend's house with a huge pile of really, really nice planters and containers. Sigh.

Anyway...

My little patch of buttercups are blooming. Just a patch of bright yellow by the porch steps. And nearby, my day lilies are sprouting. I am hoping they fill out the patch this year.

There are patches of white clover blooming in the yard, much to the delight of some early bees. There is also several patches of birds-eye speedwell in the yard. While I haven't looked yet, I am sure there is also wild violets blooming already in the back and side yard.

The trees are budding up and starting to put out leaves. The elderberry bushes (which I didn't prune back during the winter). I may go through and do some pruning this week. The nectarine and peach trees are budding out. I'm going to throw some fertilizer on all of them. The plum trees are also setting buds. What I am really excited about is the Nanking cherry bushes in the back are flowering.

Yeah, the weather has been so funky, I feel like I am already behind in the garden and it is only the first week in March.

My asparagus is starting to sprout. The garlics and onions are doing well. I need to prune a bit on my berry bushes. And I need to strip the vines from the fencing - among other things.

AND...

Tomatoes have been sowed and a lot of seedlings potted up into individual cups.

Yep...Spring has sprung!
