Writing Wednesday - Rough Draft Challenge, Elections and Life

I figure I am about average when it comes to 'political savvy'. However, this time around I have been a bit more focused. After all, how can you not be 'focused' as prices rise and rampant stupidity of the current administration. It seems, at least to me, if you are willing to get on your knees to 'Dump', then you are part of the inner circle.

For quite a while now I have been disliking rich white men more and more. And the younger white males who are following along, hoping to add several zeros to their bank account balance. Not one of them are qualified to lead a dog on a walk.

But enough of that...

This election reminds me of what is probably one of my favorite songs from 'Les Miserables' - 'Do You Hear the People Sing?'

There is a line in the song which I have loved since I first heard it, years ago...

'...When the beating of your heart echos the beating of the drums,
there is a life about to start when tomorrow comes...'

I have felt if referred to when what you are interested in excites you, then you know you are on the right path for what you are meant to do.

However, with the midterm elections coming up, I have really resonated with the whole verse...

'Do you hear the people sing? Singing the song of angry men?
It is the music of the people who will not be slaves again!'

So...

I am writing this post on Election Day, before I go to work. Working at 69 because of the rising cost of living (and not having over prepared for retirement).

Watching millions and millions of dollars being spent on renovating the White House in gilded glory and a reflecting pool which doesn't 'reflect'. Working in a grocery store where there has been an uptick in recalls of food because of the lack of monitoring the supply chain because of the lack of people to monitor and the lack of knowledge at the head of the department which is supposed to do the monitoring.

Wondering if our National Parks will be turned into billionaire playgrounds or the site of data centers where I will be playing for their electricity and water while they give massive payouts to their stock holders.

Already, here in North Carolina, there was a huge increase in early voters. Since early voting was held at my library branches I utilize, there was always a crowd. The last day of early voting I tried at two branches to drop off and pick up books - impossible due to the size of the crowds waiting to vote.

I think the angry men and women are singing this election period. I think the stupidity of this president (who has the worse approval rating ever and still pouting he hasn't been awarded the Noble Peace Prize while sending our military men and women into a war in the Middle East) has finally hit the fan. It will be interesting to see what shakes out over the next few days from this election.

And whether I will be singing the 'Hallelujah Chorus' or not.
