My First Giveaway Day

*****Giveaway Now Closed*****

lynaeve won and as been notified via email

I 'discovered' Giveaway Day this summer quite by accident.  And as a result, I 'discovered' many, many websites that I follow on a daily basis, savoring all the eye-candy and inspiration doled out.  Sew Mama Sew is a constant source of ideas and fun and now this giveaway.

So when I decided to join this giveaway, I trooped downstairs to the 'sewing room' where I attempt to corral my sewing/knitting/crafting supplies to see what I wanted to offer up to my fellow stitchers and crafters.  I poured through my stash of quilting fabrics and couldn't make myself give up any as I had 'plans' for most of it and what was left I didn't feel was worthy of participating in this giveaway.

Then my eyes lit on this little jewel.

It's a skein of "Sakkie" from Plymouth Yarns and is appropriately called "Fire".  It has the colors of a fire in the fireplace, from a warm orangy/red to a charcoal grey.  And with being 40% kid mohair, 40% super wash merino and 20% nylon and approximately 437 yards, it has a wonderful feel to it.

I bought this yarn in order to knit a shawl during the Tour de France this year.   My youngest daughter, Texter, picked out this colorway.  However, it never clicked with me.  I wound one skein into a ball and started on the shawl and didn't like the look of it and stopped.  I am sure that one of these days I will change my mind and knit up something with the ball I have ready to go, but this skein needs to find a home where it will be loved and appreciated.

So my question to you is - have you ever bought something for a project which seemed like a great idea at the time, only to turn out that you don't like it after all?

I will try to answer all comments, but I might be a little bit delayed as I am finishing up a semester in college, which ends on the 12th and I work part time and my full time 'job' is helping to care for my grand daughter.  Oh, and did I mention I have to sew 5 bags and have them ready by the 18th in order to be taken back to North Carolina by Texter?

In the meantime, I hope you stop and look around and enjoy my site and return often.

PS.  Since this is a light skein of yarn, I will be glad to ship internationally.

  1. Beautiful yarn! I love knitting in the winter.

I'm sure I have great ideas for projects all the time, but I forget why I bought my supplies :)

  2. YES! all the time. then the yard of fabric/ skein of delicious yarn, sits around for months maybe longer till I figure out what to do with it or destash it in an instagram sale... I think collecting materials is an addiction! this is a beautiful color!

  3. Hi Judy,

I love the yarn. It looks very nice and I would love to turn it into a scarf or shawl.
I sort of recognize what you say. But with me it's more like I'm full of ideas and don't find the time to do everything. Only a few times I'm disappointed by something I bought on the internet.

  4. I absolutely do that. I fall in love with the yarn and then bring it home and nothing clicks. I often try to find it a new home if it sits in the "to be used' drawer for too long.

    That yarn is absolutely gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  5. oh , yarn. thank you for offering your prize to others :)
i find that ununsed yarn can be … very patient. :)x

    ReplyDelete
  6. My first quilt project on my own - totally wrong fabric and I just gave up on the quilt. The fabric is now being used as test fabric if I'm designing something new or practicing free-motion quilting. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  7. I do it all the time. I will usually find another use for the item or give it away to friends and/or blog readers.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I have a stack of fabric 4 foot high that I've bought to make my self clothing and then changed my mind! The yarn is gorgeous and would make a pretty shawl!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Totally. If you hang onto it long enough, sometimes you come around to liking it though! You sound like a busy lady - thanks for the giveaway and glad to find your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I do that once in a while. The reason is usually that it is too light of a color and I worry that it will get worn once and get stained.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Beautiful skein! I love those colors.
In my early stages of quilting, I hoarded fabric that I loved at the time, but after a few years, I've started to hate it.

    ReplyDelete
  12. All the time, especially with knitting. Usually, its just I'm not in the right headspace to work on a complicated pattern -- Or I thought the pattern took worsted, but actually took DK, etc. Luckily, there's lots more yarn and lots more patterns in the world!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Of course. I have soooo much fabric that in truth I may never use. Bought a small cut that would have worked fine for clothing for the little man IF I had made something with it when he was that small!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Only all the time! I think I have one skein of yarn (or rather 4 skeins in the same yarn/colorway) that has tried to be 3 or more projects already. Maybe it's just the yarn?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes many times. I hate when something looks so wonderful on the model and really terrible on real life. I hate it even more for knitting b/c it was so much more expensive and time consuming.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I really try hard to not buy things without a project! It doesn't always work though so there are a few things in my stash that I wonder why I bought!

But I also inherited about 2 boxes full of fabric from my aunt... I'm sure these fabrics are ones she didn't like anymore!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I always find myself with too many projects and not enough yarn! But that is absolutely gorgeous!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Yep, definitely done that! Mostly buying enough 4 ply yarn for a cardigan before realising that I hate to knit such big projects with yarn that fine! Much better suited for small projects :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think all of us have bought impulsively and then let it sit for far too long! It's worse though when you don't buy because you're being sensible and then of course you think of the perfect idea far too late.

I would make a cowl because the beautiful fire like colours would dress up my black winter coat.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Wow, that's really beautiful yarn. I often buy fabric and then decide I'm not really as in love with it as I was when I first saw it but i can always find family who are so I just use it to make for them.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hmmmm, do I buy supplies and never get around to using them...most definitely yes!!! Glad I'm not the only one. I'm trying to get back into knitting, it's been too long :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm pretty sure that's the only reason I have a stash--brilliant plans that come to nothing!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh yes. That is at the heart of my "stash" of fabrics, yarns, beads, etc. Always lots of good ideas inspired by the beautiful makings. Not so much time to do them. Once in awhile I even get it home, put it away and then forget what I was planning on doing with it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous2:09 PM

I'm a yarn nut, so it would be so cool to win. I have so many impulse buys, it is embarrassing.

    ReplyDelete
  25. This is beautiful! Thanks for the chance to win!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. i've got some tweed fabric that i haven't gotten the courage to turn into something yet!

    ReplyDelete
  27. A big YES to purchasing something and losing interest in it. I can think of fabric that I purchased for table runners. Seems it lost it's appeal as soon as I left the quilt store. Thank you for sharing your yarn!

    ReplyDelete

  29. I had to laugh because I have several purchases that I later wondered "what was I thinking?" This yarn doesn't look like I would have trouble working it up into something though, it's lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  30. yes, i have! and the price on the skein of yarn was much higher than what i would normally pay so it was quite disappointing. it now sits in my stash drawer, waiting for the right project.

    tormentedcause@aol.com

    ReplyDelete
  31. That's beautiful yarn! Thank you so much for deciding to give it away! I find I hardly ever change my mind with yarn - more often with fabric. Often if I hang on to it long enough, it gets used in a completely different and usually better way than I originally planned.

Good luck with your busy-ness over the next few days/weeks - sounds like you've got a lot going on!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I do that all the time. However I just think of them as fabric waiting for the right project. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I try very hard not to do that, but it still happens occasionally. I have a few pieces of fabric I bought online, that are super cute, but do not work with the project they were purchased for. So hard sometimes to envision what something will look like when put together.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Pretty yarn! I buy stuff all the time for projects that I don't get to right away, and stuff that doesn't turn out to work as well as I thought for a project. But I think the last time I bought something for a project and then didn't really LIKE it later was when I was a beginning knitter and I bought a bunch of cheap synthetic yarns. Once I learned what good yarn was like, I couldn't bear to work with that cheap stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  35. All. The. Time. I am in the awful habit of buying fat quarters or single balls of yarn. Fortunately I am also in the habit of only knitting or sewing small things so it is a win/win.

    trashalou@googlemail.com

    ReplyDelete
  36. oh, i feel like i do that all the time! but eventually it works for some other project or i find someone who can put it to good use.

  38. I have items that I bought and loved & no project ever seemed right and then 10 years later I think they are hideous :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. That is why crafters are famous for their stashes!! Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  40. More times than I can count!

    ReplyDelete
  41. the yarn is beautiful!
i have lots of skeins that i had good intentions for ...one day :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh yes. But they live in the stash for another day. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I had a 3 year hiatus from quilting that started with a badly broken leg... so I had/have plenty of projects and stacks of fabrics to figure out. Beautiful yarn - thank you for a chance to own it!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Super cute. I think all of us by things for projects that never get made. Either because we decide we no longer make them or we decide not to do said project.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I knit a shawl out of 2 skeins of Madeline Tosh sport and when I was finished I couldn't find a way to wear it! It was mortified because I adore the yarn! I decided I'm going to frog it and use the yarn for something I will actually wear :P

    ReplyDelete
  46. emmevon(at)gmail(dot)com
    gorgeous yarn!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Adore the yarn! I can totally see that as a shawl. It's been a few years since my last shawl - I'd love to give it a go. :) Thanks for the chance!

I have bought something with an idea in mind and then didn't love it. Usually I can make something else out of it though!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I have done that and usually give it to one of my friends.
I do love that yarn and I am learning to crochet so it would be a delightful giveaway to win.
    thanks for a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sorry your shawl didn't turn out, that happens sometimes. The worst for me is when I want to do a project and settle on something that I'm not in love with only to later find exact what I was looking for!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Beautiful yarn. I think I would make a scarf.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Lovely giveaway,so generous of you.Thank you for the chance to win it.Love the yarn, perfect for cowl.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Quite often! On my budget, I do 95% of my yarn shopping at thrift shops, where choices like color, weight, and fiber content are moot issues. You either want what they've got or you don't. Those purchases always seem to work out. But when I do go to the LYS, where I'm confronted by myriad choices, I often get home wishing I'd chosen one of the other (several hundred!) yarns that I'd fallen in love with. It's funny that you ask this question, because that "Fire" colorway is extremely close to one that I remember regretting not choosing! Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sorry your shawl didn't work out. I have a sweater started, but just can't seem to move past the beginning rows. Not sure if it is the yarn or me. Probably me.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Congratulations on juggling everything on your plate - very impressive!! I recently bought fabric for a knit top that looked great on the bolt. I'm not sure what I was thinking, but am hoping it will look better as a scarf (or a dustrag!) Many thanks!
    emyerly(at)wideopenwest(dot)com

    ReplyDelete
  55. Oh man, I've bought so many things for so many projects that I've never quite followed through. But the supply usually sits on my shelf long enough that I find another project for it!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm always buying fabric and then not using it for what I intended to use it for. But then I just buy more fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Very few pieces of the fabric I buy actually make it to the original project - just love having fabric to choose from.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I do it a lot. Thanks for the chance to win! ksmith8@emich.edu

  60. Yes.. and no. If i buy it I will most likely love it forever but sometimes the interest in the project looses it's charm. This yarn however is awfully yummy and I WILL use it :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. What lovely yarn, it would make a spectacular scarf!
Absolutely yes! I have fabric that I have to ask myself,"What was I thinking?!" You're not alone :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. I usually buy with a project in mind, so I rarely have that problem with purchases. However, if someone offers me something for free, I just can't say no. I have bags of fabric and yarn that I can't find a thing to do with, but still can't bring my self to get rid of!

    ReplyDelete
  63. What gorgeous yarn - so generous of you. We ALL have a piece or two that we wonder "what were we thinking?" when we bought it, don't we?

    ReplyDelete
  64. WHAT PRETTY YARN! Im always buying fabric with a project in mind then forget to make it. yikes!

  67. I have a ton of fabric that I love but can't decide what to do with yet! This yarn is beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  68. What a pity your shawl didn't work out. Sometimes I buy yarn and then realise it's not quite the right weight for what I want, but my biggest problem is buying jewellery supplies online and then receiving them and thinking, "hmm, this is not going to work."

    ReplyDelete
  69. I certainly have changed my mind on colors a lot with projects. I would love to win this for my husband who recently took up knitting (all by himself!) and is doing really well!

    ReplyDelete
  70. oh, gosh - yes! But I usually find something else to do with it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  71. I have bought in haste and repented at leisure a few times. It's easier for me to put a quilt up for sale though if I don't adore the fabrics in it. :) I must say I think this skein is goregous! I would love to knit it into a cowl.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Oh yes, all the time! Most of my knits I actually wear have been 2 or even 3 articles of clothing before they reach their final shape - I don't seem to be able to choose the right pattern the first time, ever. At least with yarn I can undo and reuse it... not something I can do with fabric. Though I did recently find a vintage dress pattern that is made up of lots of tiny pattern pieces, and I think I could possibly unpick some other awful dress attempts and reuse the fabric... :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Being that I have been knitting a lot for the last 12 years, yes. In fact right now I am knitting handwarmers from some Erika Knight baby wool. The first three patterns did not work out at all. But I persisted and the the fourth one seems ok. Since my daughter picked this yarn to be handwarmers for her teacher I had to persist!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Oh yes, we've all been there. I bought some recycled cotton for a light cardigan and got 90% done and hated it (too small) then I tried another top, didn't work. Now I hope against hope this last top I'm working on with it will be the last!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Yes but I usually pass it on to someone in my sewing group who loves it!!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I have been known to impulse buy fabric because I couldn't resist the color or print design only to find it didn't suit me or anything I was likely to wear. Just lovely eye candy in my stash!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I just bought me a Little sweet knitting book (Island) and could Need this beautiful yarn for it:)

    ReplyDelete
  78. That happens often to me! Anyway it's funny finding a new thing to do with it.
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  79. That happens often to me! Anyway it's funny finding a new thing to do with it.
    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Yes, happens to me often with quilting fabric :)

    ReplyDelete
  81. It happens sometime to me when I see some yarn or fabric that is sold to reduced price. I love the color of the yarn you give away! It reminds me of the bird Bullfinch! In Norway we often use bullfinches for Christmas decorations.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Do we really have to discuss how many things I've bought that I ended up changing my mind about? But at least they make for lovely blog giveaways because there's always happy homes out there for them!

    ReplyDelete
  83. It's usually the "impulse" purchases that stay on the shelf the longest while I try to remember what I loved about them or what I planned to use them for - Such a lovely offer - thank you, and Merry Christmas

    ReplyDelete
  84. Gorgeous colours - I would love to win the skein :)

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yes! I do that a lot. I'm actually knitting a sweater now out of this mustard colored wool and while I do like it, I wish I'd chosen something totally different for the project. Its a lace pattern and I think a slinkier brighter yarn would have been much prettier!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. My problem is buying supplies for a project and then never getting around to even start the project! But I'm working on my stash to use up! Thanks for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Beautiful yarn. I have bought yarn and beads for a shawl and didn't like the pattern once I started knitting it. So I ripped it out. Still looking for the perfect pattern for the yarn and beads. I know I will find one someday.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I would hate to tell you how many times I have done that - too many times to count. I think the yarn would make a gorgeous scarf.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yes! I definitely have some yarn that I now say "what was I thinking??"

    ReplyDelete
  90. That's beautiful yarn! Yes, I've bought yarn or fabric that I then had second thoughts about, but I believe that if I live long enough, I'll still find the perfect project for everything.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Yes! I have all kinds of fabric and yarn that I'm not sure what to do with anymore.

    dewiec(at)yahoo(dot)ca

    ReplyDelete
  92. I have bought fabric that I don't like or need anymore. Usually, I use them for giveaways. Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Indeed I have- I love how variegated yarn (with short repeats) looks on the skein but usually don't like it once I start knitting.

    ReplyDelete
  94. That yarn is beaoutiful! I always buy someting that looks right at the time, but falls short when I get it home! No worries...I know I will use it eventually!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Of course isn't that what the stash is lol! I think the yarn is beautiful! thanks

    ReplyDelete
  96. Thank you so much for the giveaway, I have lots of fabric that doesnt really work for me (the danger of buying bundles of entire lines) and yarn..well luckily I just started working with it, but I'm sure in a year I'll have a bunch of "what was I thinking" skeins!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Ahh yes, I have it with sewing projects quite often, but mostly it's just a matter of my changing taste over time..

    ReplyDelete
  98. Yep! I think we've all done that at one time or another... tastes change, like you said, or maybe it looked good online but then in person....not so much. Seems to happen more when I buy fabric without any specific plan in mind, but just because I like it and want to get some before it ages out of the stores. I'd be thrilled to take that yarn off your hands, though, love the colors!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I bought some light weight sheer fabric to make a shower curtain. Then I got totally overwelmed by keeping that much fabric going straight through my machine and never actually tried it.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I have bought yarn at country fairs only to realize that it's way to itchy for what I thought I wanted to do. Luckily my daughter goes to a Waldorf school so it got used by the kids.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Beautiful yarn! Yes, I have started a project and then decided that I didn't like it. On occasion I've chucked it altogether though usually I manage to salvage the materials at least for something else.

    ReplyDelete
  102. wow I saw this and my eyes popped out - gorgeous

    ReplyDelete
  103. I once bought this really cool kids print with frogs splashing in rain puddles. I thought it would make some really cool pajamas for my little guy. But then I showed it to a friend and she mentioned that the light purple colour in the background might be considered a girl colour. I hadn't thought of that and didn't really think it mattered, but I couldn't get it out of my head and ended up putting it aside and making his pajamas out of blue fabric with rocket ships on it even though I didn't like it as much. Meh... what can you do? I know have a cool apron with those frogs on it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  104. Gorgeous yarn! I'm always buying yarn for projects that I start and just don't like as much as I thought I would. I'm working on getting more picky about what I start so my craft room doesn't end up overflowing with yarn! :) Thanks for participating!

    ReplyDelete
  105. I have yet to meet a knitter who has not knit something and not liked it. Luckily for me, it doesn't bother me to rip out a whole sweater and let the yarn sit until I figure out what to do with it.

    ReplyDelete
  106. yes, i have. this is beautiful yarn i haven't knit anything in a while but i would pick my needles back up for that. plus it's my kids school colors. :)

    ReplyDelete
  107. Yes, I bought some balls of some satiny ribbon yard with the little knotty things on them, thinking they would work up so pretty. But there they sit 4 years later and I haven't used them. I should give them to someone who will use them. Thanks for the "push" :) :)

    ReplyDelete
  108. oh yeah I do this to often

    ReplyDelete
  109. Goodness yes! Usually it is a fabric that would "look so great with _____" only to get it home and have it be a total disappointment.

Gorgeous yarn! Thank you for your kindness and generosity (even if I don't win)!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Last week I "found" a nice fabric I once bought to make a sweater for my 10 years old son. Now he is 28.....
Now I like to knit a scarf with that gorgeous yarn!

    ReplyDelete
  111. Oh yes, I think that must happen to all of us at some point! You are one busy person! Thanks for taking time out for this giveaway. I am a new knitter, so this would be perfect for me!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. I have boxes of stuff--all kinds, from wool, to fabric, to crafts--that seemed like a good idea at the time...
    :o)

    ReplyDelete
  113. Hi! Welcome to your first giveaway day. I rarely pick a yarn I don't like, I'm usually fairly unadventurous when it comes to yarn color, but fabric... that's another story, there is definitely some fabric that I just loved when I bought it, that now just doesn't hold the same appeal years later. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  114. I'd like to meet the woman who has completed every craft she bought supplies for. Ha, doesn't exist!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Ooh I bet that yarn does feel nice! This summer, I bought some chambray online for a shirt and when it got here it felt more like quilting cotton than I was expecting. I still made the shirt, but I don't wear it as much as I thought I would when I ordered the fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  116. I love the color of the yarn, but yes I have a room full of fabric and buttons and yarn and stuff that I loved at first site but get it home and then can't decide what to do with it. Thanks, Kathy

  119. Oh absolutely. I recently gave away five bags of fabric that had been purchased for clothes and I no longer liked them.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Yup, yarn for a blanket for my daughter and just didn't like it once I started knitting with it

    ReplyDelete
  121. That's such a pretty skein! Well yes of course I have experienced something like that. It is usually when they have a great picture of the model wearing the resulting product. It always look so great on the models (well of course) but not really on me

    ReplyDelete
  122. Yes! I tend to do it with fabric. I fall in love with something and when I get home, the color way ends up "off" from what I originally envisioned/saw.

    ReplyDelete
  123. To answer your question - Yes. But I don't do it very often. I try to think things through very carefully before I buy so I don't end up with a bunch of stuff I don't want.
    The yarn is pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Oh my you are busy! Bless your heart for being your granddaughter's caretaker.
In my former paper-crafting life I did get lots of papers, projects, kits that I thought were great idea, but now they just sit there and I am probably never going to get to them. :P

    ReplyDelete
  125. Oh I am always starting projects and never finshing them! must be the adhd in me! Although I do save them all and eventually go back and work on them....but I know I've made a few things and it did not turn out how I thought...can't remember examples though...but it has happened!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Most of the time I don't even have a project in mind when I buy yarn I just see something I love and /i want it. And eventually I find something to do with it. Or my daughters do!

    ReplyDelete
  127. thanks for this chance to win. My biggest disappointment was when i tried to knit with some bamboo once. It was lovley, but just difficult and unforgiving for knitting. I gave up pretty quickly and it's listed on myrav destash page.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I bought a few yards of a semi-expensive fabric to recover the seats of my dining room chairs and then I decided that I didn't like it.

  131. yes, I bought all the stuff to make Roman shades. nope, didn't happen!

  132. I bought some fabric to cover a piano
bench, then decided that I really did
not like it. That fabric haunted me in my stash for a long, long time!
Thanks for the chance to win!

  133. I do it all the time. Isn't that why we need a craft room???

    ReplyDelete
  134. ohh all the time ... but just leave it in the drawer and discover it a year later or so and be surprised what new ideas you get ...

    ReplyDelete
  135. I do it all the time that's why I have a stash!

    ReplyDelete
  136. I absolutely do that. I fall in love with the yarn and then bring it home and nothing clicks

All the time! Or sometimes I get gifted some fabric that I don't like to begin with, but then later it grows on me! I like how my tastes change with time!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  139. That hasn't happened in a while because I am DETERMINED to get through this stash that is taking over my yarn collection. I've been very good at not buying loads of yarn, just little skeins that hardly take up any space....

    ReplyDelete
  140. Yes. Many times. I think I just too greedy..

    ReplyDelete
  141. I am not much of a stash buyer, so I do generally buy with a project in mind. However, I bought some really lovely hemp wool blend yarn last summer for a cardigan and never even cast it on. I like the pattern and I like the yarn, but somehow things didn't quite click.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I've definitely done that a time or two. I don't usually change my mind about a skein itself, but sometimes the knitted fabric doesn't resemble the skein closely enough for me.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I love that yarn. It would make a gorgeous cowl. I sometimes buy fabric that I thought would be great and then find I really have nothing else to go with it.

  144. Wow, that looks great. Indeed, a very intense color combination for snowy weather!

    Great giveaway! Ciao, Fleur

    ReplyDelete
  145. I also have some skeins of yarn I bought with great intentions, but that I never seem to like when I'm starting a new project.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I'm lucky in that my fifteen-year-old daughter has been knitting voraciously and is using those skeins in my stash that I no longer remember what I was planning

    ReplyDelete
  147. I love the yarn.
And I feel the same than you sometimes with fabric.

  148. beautiful warm colour

    ReplyDelete
  149. Yep. I've bought fabric for something I had in mind, but then when I went to get started it was just not working for me at all.

When a yarn doesn't work for me I pass it along to the kids or it gets donated.

  151. I have lot of "leftovers" in a storage container. I want to try my hand at dyeing some of them. Thanks for the giveaway! Amy @ gasudimack(at)sbcglobal(dot)net

Hi! wow, you are really very busy!!! I'm sure that shawl looked great, it's a lovely yarn. Hope it comes this way so I can make a nice cowl :-P! thanks for the chance

    ReplyDelete
  153. Ohhh! I really like this yarn! I did that not too long ago with a skein of purple and blue and pink yarn, it looks much more vibrant online and it was more dusty, not quite my thing.

    ReplyDelete
  154. sometimes I buy a color of fabric, and it doesn't turn out to be what I want.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Anonymous3:37 PM

I have stopped buying fabric online (mostly) because even though there's a scale ruler (usually) I find the fabric is not what I pictured. I'd rather see it in person, and make sure the color, etc., is just right.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Beautiful color way. It would make a lovely table runner. I have some of the worse fabric that I just bought online. A black and grey chevron. Not only is it ugly but the quality...yuck !! Some things go on sale for a reason.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I think this would make a wonderful pair of socks

    ReplyDelete
  158. yes, I try to avoid impulse buys for that reason! I have a skein in my trunk that I know would be a lovely gift but I cant seem to cast it on because it just doenst appeal anymore!

    ReplyDelete
  159. My real problem is taking freebies from people thinking "Oh yeah, I can use it for that" and I turn around and forget about it. Luckily I now have a new calling at church involving the 8-11 year old girls so they will probably help me bust some of this stash I've been building.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Thanks for offering the giveaway. The colors are very pretty. I've been guilty of purchasing supplies that just never made it into any project. Maybe one day. :)

    ReplyDelete
  161. I have bulky yarn that is still sitting waiting for me to knit into something. I didn't buy enough for the sweater pattern it was purchased for.

    ReplyDelete
  162. I love that yarn!!! And since I've been in a knitting frame of mind, I would be the perfect winner! Yeah... I have bought two drawers of yarn for a crochet afghan which I never made. Let's not even get into the fabric stash... Good luck with the end of semester stuff!

  164. yes, I do. 7 years ago I bought $200 worth of fabric for a full size quilt and have yet to cut into any of it. Lately I've been knitting and I love those colors in that yarn. I love yarns that change colors too.

    ReplyDelete
  165. egads yes! Either thru ebay, looks like what I want, get in the mail and oh no way! Or buy on clearance with an idea in mind just to forget about it completely and stash it in the maybe sometime box.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Oh yeah. I'm trying to not buy materials until I'm ready to put them to use. Otherwise it's another forgotten project. Thanks!

Isn't changing your mind half the fun. I love unassigned yarn stash, you never know what it will turn into.

  168. I am an impulse buyer so I have fabric...yarn...patterns... (...clothes...jewellery...) which all seemed like a good idea at the time but now I don't like or can't imagine what I thought that I was going to use then for.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I usually buy supplies for a project but forget what I bought them for! Or I buy it without a project in mind and never do anything with it.

  170. Sad to say, but, yes. I do the same thing (but not quite as often as my hubby thinks!)

That skein is GORGEOUS! Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  171. For sure. No wonder my fabric stash has grown a lot!

    ReplyDelete
  172. I was just discussing this with a friend yesterday, and he called it "project creep". Its where you say "that would make a good project", but then never get around to the project, or decide after the fact that its not as cool an idea as you thought it was.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I am so bad for not following through with ideas. I have a craft cupboard brimming with "Oh don't throw that out, I could use it to make... something" stuff. Still, that glorious moment when I do actually find a use for it is worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  174. That is some nice yarn! I usually sew in summer and knit in winter...to answer your question, YES! I still have a piece of fabric I intended to make a dress out of...back in the 1980's! Best of all, it's now back in style!

    ReplyDelete
  175. Greetings from the Yukon Territory in Northern Canada!

    Beautiful wool, its just luscious.

And yes, I have had several what the heck was I thinking moments when creating. Fortunately I have no qualms with walking away from something.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Oh totally. I have some children/babies novelty fabric that I didn't end up using and its been sitting for years.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Yes I have bought "ingredients" for a couple of projects and when I went to commence them, could not get into them, not sure if it was the yarn and fabric or the patterns.

The yarn "Fire"is gorgeous - I would knit a slouchy hat, maybe two, one for me and one for my daughter depending on how much yarn I used.

    ReplyDelete
  178. I always get fooled with the pastels. I think I like them in the store but not when I'm knitting them.

    ReplyDelete
  179. This is a beautiful yarn that would match a boucle fabric that I have and would make a wonderful beret or infinity scarf. I would just <3 to receive this give-a-way. Happy Holidays!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  180. Have I ever bought something I didn't like afterall!!! Whoah, of course I have and its such a nuisance. But I've discovered you can use much anything after a while, so better not give everything away at once :-)

    ReplyDelete
  181. Yes, I've bought plenty of things that didn't quite work for a project when I got home. I think that is how my fabric stash started...back when I bought fabric for a specific project in mind...

    ReplyDelete
  182. OOH this would be delicious to give to my sister, she is an avid knitter! I don't usually buy fabric that I end up not liking, but sometimes I hold on to it (because I like it so much) for so long that the intended purpose (like a dress for my daughter) is no longer possible because there is not enough there! Why do kids have to grow all the time?!

    ReplyDelete
  183. my house, and everything in it, seemed like a good idea at the time...

    ReplyDelete
  184. hmm... never happened with me. Maybe because i have bought a lot and didn't find the time to start with them yet!

    ReplyDelete
  185. Beautiful yarn! I had a great idea to make a vintage apron for my sister a few years ago. It seemed like a great idea but it was a huge headache to make. It was worth it in the end though!

    ReplyDelete
  186. I buy stuff I don't use all the time, but I usually get it out again after a period of time and find something else to make with it.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Yes, fabric that i see and have to have, but have no idea what I was planing on doing with it. Very frustrating when i go back and try to figure out where things came from.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Yep! I do that every now and then with jewelry supplies and fabric. I put them aside and sometimes find that after time away I can go back to them with new ideas. I just started knitting and would LOVE this beautiful skein. :)

    ReplyDelete
  189. I bought a couple sewing books that I really regretted once I started looking at them more.

    ReplyDelete
  190. I am also a grandmother who finished my own college semester last night! Yes, I have bought lots of yarn that I thought was a good idea at the time. Usually, it is synthetic or a synthetic blend. I really prefer natural fibers.
I am studying design. What degree are you working on?

    ReplyDelete
  191. I have lots of fabrics and yarns that I bought thinking they would be perfect for this or that and then when I started working with them, I just did not like how they were working up. I guess it is the blight of the crafter. The yarn is absolutely beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  192. Yip! I make clothes and quilts, but for some reason decided to have a go at making nappies. I soon discovered i just don't enjoy it and i'm not very good at it. It's much easier just to buy them from WAHM's who are much more skilled than me. I had lots of fabrics left over from the short foray, so I just gave them away in the end.

    ReplyDelete
  193. Yes, I've bought fabric and yarns with specific ideas in mind, only to have my tastes change or to be distracted by new shiny objects! This yarn looks lovely and I'm sure I can find a pattern to do it justice.

    ReplyDelete
  194. Gorgeous yarn! And yes, I have so much fabric that, once I sat down to craft, turned out to be not what I wanted. But then it's bound to be what I want, some time in the future, so it all works out!

    ReplyDelete
  195. Sadly, yes. I'm often buying things that end up being wrong for what I had planned. I live north of you in Alberta. Thanks for the chance.

    ReplyDelete
  196. Huh, yeah!! It happens all the time! I joined a knitting group & found out that other people do this too! We often take our 'failure' yarns to knit group & swap them with each other!

    ReplyDelete
  197. Yes - All the time! I will purchase supplies for a quilt or knitting project and have them all together and ready to go... then realize that either it just isn't clicking or I really don't like something about the pattern... But, generally I will find the perfect idea to go with the supplies, albeit maybe a year or three down the road!

    ReplyDelete
  198. I do that, and then have to find another project to use it for.

    ReplyDelete
  199. I have a project in mind to use it ... thanks for the chance to win. I am happy to follow you on Bloglovin. Merry Christmas from Oklahoma, USA. crystalbluern at onlineok dot com
