Food and Fiber Friday - Canned and All Sewn Up!
After dropping off Foxy's skirt, which I had to bring back to take up the waist a few more inches, I worked on her couch quilt. I had an apple box filled with Halloween fabric which I am trying to use up. Despite making a very, very full maxi skirt, and now a 70 x 70 inch quilt top, I find the box is still fairly full.
While not sewing, I have canned the following over the past week...
- 22 quarts and 22 pints of tomato sauce
- 4 pints of green beans
- 4 pints of salsa
- 3 quarts of chili
- 2 quarts and 3 pints of peaches
- 5 pints of peach syrup
- 6 pints of strawberry syrup
- 7 pints of strawberry-lemonade concentrate
- 15 - 2 cup packages of white corn in the freezer
- 7 quart bags of peach slices in the freezer
- 4 pints of pickled peppers
- 10 pounds of pork loin turned into 24 chops in 2-count packages in freezer
And I still have 1 basket of peaches and about 4 dozen ears of bi-color corn to deal with.
After this, I am waiting to see if I can get my hands on a bushel of field peas and green beans - or at least a large basket of each. Then I will quit canning...maybe.
On the sewing stage, I will be pinning Foxy's quilt together so I can start quilting it. Want to have it done so the next time I go to Savannah I can take it with me. I have a quilt top for Lady K almost finished as soon as I go through 'storage' upstairs and find the rest of the border for it. Then it will be finding some backing and will be good to go.
I have a 'plant' quilt top I am finishing up. Not really all that happy with it, but too close to being finished to stop now. I have the backing and border fabric, so it should be finished soon.
After that, I have a couple of purses I need to put together. And I want to make a patchwork jacket for myself. So I need to make 'fabric' for it (piecing together the fabric scraps), along with a patchwork tiered skirt.
Sewing is my 'morning' work. Canning my 'afternoon' work. It's just too hot to do anything else - other than watch the rain go everywhere except my house.
