And now for my opinion...
Anyone have a chest or footlocker they aren't using?
I have two filled with decades of journaling and need to move things from my hope chest to a third footlocker. So I feel I know a bit about journaling.
Granted, my journaling isn't really 'therapeutic', especially in some of my earlier years. And there are gaps in my journaling because - well, life lifes. Sometimes it is reams of stream of consciousness. Other times there is artwork or stickers involved.
But I am a firm believer 'writing it out' does help with whatever situation you might be going through. Or not going through. Writing about the 'good' things in life is also very positive.
What I enjoy about McCarthy's book is the journaling prompts to help you get started or to urge you forward into digging deeper into whatever issue you might want to explore.
I can only urge you to get a notebook and writing implement - it doesn't have to be expensive - a cheap, lined notebook you would use for school and a freebie plastic pen or pencil - and you are set to start a journey into your life.
Even 10 years later, this book is still relevant - probably more so that ever, given the state of the world.
But don't take my word for it, check out these other opinions...
