Bookish Thursday - 'Believe Me' I'm Loving 'Horrorstor'

Talk about two books which are on opposite ends of the reading/listening spectrum. But I love them both!

The first I discovered from a BookTuber (who I can't remember) and decided to give it a try. I was a bit leery as Grady Hendrix is not a favorite author. I find him too 'horrorie' for my taste. However, I decided to give it a try.

As a bit of a backstory, one reason I was glad we moved to the Charlotte area is there is an IKEA. I am currently surrounded by a couple of different Ikea bookshelves. We have also purchased some dressers and cubby shelving. My bed is an Ikea frame. Plus, I love wandering through the showroom and having a meal of Swedish meatballs. (Note: I need to make a trip to Ikea as I have a set of their dishes and after 4 years of usage, I need to replace a couple of bowls and plates.)

Anyway...

Horrorstor is set in an Ikea-like store. In fact, the whole book is formatted like a catalog for the store. And weird things are happening overnight in the store and Basil, a supervisor, selects a couple of employees to assist in an overnight stakeout to figure out what and/or who is causing the issues. Another couple of employees also decide to overnight in the store, looking for ghosts. Then the 'spirits' hit the fan, so to speak.

Not as scary as other of Hendrix's other books I have attempted to read. I love the descriptions of the 'path' through the store. Of course, when I go to Ikea I will not be able to look at things the same way. I will still eat lunch there - doubt anything can come between me and the meatballs!

Then, once again I'm several years behind publication, but I have been listening to this audio book...

The girls and I have been watching Eddie Izzard for decades now. After discovering him on an HBO special years ago, we devoured his comedy shows. There were a couple of time when the girls were in school I was a bit afraid they would enact parts of his shows, but it all worked out fine. I've watched him in several of his acting roles. I applaud his journey to fully embracing being an 'action transvestite'. In awe he did 27 marathons in 27 days. I've seen in live on stage a couple of times.

In other words, I like him.

But his audiobook is in my Audible library now. And I have been enjoying him on my car rides. He starts with his earliest memories and continues throughout his childhood into adult life. It's like a 16 hour show. The 'footnotes' and asides really make the audiobook. I still have a bit to go and have a 'road trip' planned for next weekend where I will probably finish it up.

Now I have to jump into a book I am reading which will be reviewed here next week. A bit of a hint - I am really enjoying it so far. And this will be the first of several posts coming in the next few months. Book Blog Tour season has started!

Unfortunately, I have 'Clean Kitchen' on my to-do list today. So no reading until housework is done!
