Food and Fiber Friday - Sewing Class!

I am basically self-taught in the sewing area. I got a tiny bit of instruction from my mom who was an excellent seamstress. Most of what I know I picked up from watching her and then assisting her in clothes making.

With the prompting of a gardening/reading buddy, I signed up for a sewing class with her. Frankly, she has only been sewing for about a year and her skill level is out of sight. She does such fantastic work. And it's because she took classes when she started out. So now I am picking up after years of 'winging' it. I am loving the tips and hints I have received after only 1 class session.

Actually, prior to taking this shirt class, I was in a one night class on 'measurements'. Once again, I learned a lot. Plus I have my measurements which really helps in reading patterns. But right now, it is a 3-session class on shirt making.

This is the fabric I am using for my shirt. It will be short sleeved and lengthen to cover my butt. I have this 'thing' about shirts which end right at my waist. I want it to be longer. One reason I dislike how women's shirts are made. I want longer tails so I can tuck it into my pants if I wish.

Anyhow...

I am excited as she will be showing us how to finish seams for a professional look. And how can I not like an instructor who is into fountain pens and planners!

So there are some upcoming classes she is teaching I want to take - like her pajama pants class and a pants class. Plus she is looking at putting together a class for planner covers and a quilted jacket.

I am so loving sewing right now.
