Bookish Thursday - Have You Seen Him by Kimberly Lee

Boy, I was a bit worried this summer I wouldn't have any books to review. It was really slow on the offerings. However, things are picking up!

I'm ending August with a really interesting mystery/thriller from WOW-Women on Writing for author Kimberly Lee - Have You Seen Him

But before I get to my opinion, let me do a bit of business.

Book Summary

For David Byrdsong, life is a series of daily obligations. An attorney, he lacks both ambition and the ability to commit to a long-term relationship with his girlfriend, Gayle. Abandoned by his family at an airport when he was eleven, he learned to blunt his feelings, despite his subsequent adoption by a loving couple.

Until one day, when David discovers his own face in a missing child ad. Suddenly driven to uncover the truth about his past, he is forced to tap into his inner strength as he encounters corporate conspiracies, murdered bystanders, and distressing suspicions about the only family he’s ever really trusted. David enlists Gayle's help—and the help of an unlikely stranger with secrets of his own—as he attempts to find his true family, whoever they are.

Thrilling, exploratory, and propulsive, Have You Seen Him is a story of lost identity, dangerous secrets, and a deeply personal pursuit of the truth.

Now for my opinion (cause you know I have one)...

The book starts out with one of my most dreaded fears as a mother - losing a child in an airport. Having been in the airline industry for 34 years and traveling with 2 children and all their 'stuff', one or both of them going missing at the airport was a definite fear. Only in this case, we are viewing it from the child's point of view - losing his parents at the airport.

Anyway...

David sees his face on a missing child advertisement. Remember those? Back when milk was in cartons and not plastic jugs. This stirs up all the old fears and feelings and things start spiraling. Then his maybe-we-are-in-a-relationship girlfriend gets pulled in what is going on.

It isn't until later in the book you start getting clues as to what is actually happening to David and the action keeps getting faster and faster. Secrets are revealed which explain to David many of the things which have happened in his live.

A good read and at less than 300 pages, a great weekend read. Grab the book and something to drink and curl up for a good time.

But don't take my opinion, check out the other reviews...

Thanks so much for reading and reviewing my book, Judy! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I loved this description of Gayle--"his maybe-we-are-in-a-relationship girlfriend"--so perfect for what's going on between them in the book as it gets going.
