Bookish Thursday - Reading This Week

It has been a fun reading week and I have been enjoying it.

While doing housework (like trying to tame my sewing area in my bedroom), I am listening to Shield of Sparrows by Devaney Perry.

I have to admit I was a bit hesitant about the book because I always seem to be disappointed with books which are being touted on the internet. However, the narration on the book is great and I am loving the story. I know there has to be a twist coming up with the 'Guardian' and Odessa, but I haven't quite figured it out yet.

The sequel is on pre-order for myself and I want to get a hardback copy of the book.

Then there is book 18 - yes, 18 books in the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher. Twelve Months is out  and I am enjoying it. The prior book was one huge battle and Chicago has taken a major magical hit. So Twelve Months, at least as far as I am so far, is more reflective and contemplation on Harry's part. But I am waiting, because I can feel the tension building and expecting some major action at the end of the book.

Of course, I love saying during our 'winter weather event' that I am in bed with Harry Dresden!

Patiently waiting - somewhat - is A Box Full of Darkness by Simone St. James. I enjoy her books, mainly because they remind me somewhat of the 'gothic' novels I read in the late 60's, early 70's. All the Victoria Holt and Jane Aiken Hodge. St. James' books are a mystery wrapped in a bit of paranormal.

Another book I am reading, and savoring it bit by bit, is How To Be A Gardener by Ashlie Thomas. This was recommended by a gardening/reading buddy and I now need to get a copy of the book and send it to Savvy. Thomas, by the way, is a North Carolina gardener which makes it doubly interesting.

Not only does it relay information on how to garden, but it also traces her and her husband's journey on becoming gardeners. My kind of read.

There is a TON of library books sitting on my bedside table waiting to be picked up. As I make it through the above lineup, will have to see what I read next.
