Home and Garden Friday - Fabric, Saffron

It's that time of the year in the quilting community...BOM, better know as Block of the Month. This year I am going to participate with the group I quilt with. Best of all, fabric I bought 12 years ago for a baby quilt for Lady K will be repurposed into this BOM quilt. So zero money spent on this project and it will get a huge stack of fabric out of my stash!

Also in the house is a set of stair runners.

They are not only pretty and add a little bit of 'class' (and I need all I can get!), but Foxy seems to think she needs to throw herself down the stairs at least once a week.

Note: she hasn't seriously harmed herself - yet. But bruises and bumps do slow her down a bit.

But my stairs are very steep and a bit narrow, especially if you have big feet. These stick down nicely and are washable. I like they came with some double-sided tape for extra 'stick'. So far, she really likes them and feels much more secure going up and down the stairs.

Outside there is growth going on.

The first is my Saffron crocus. While they are several months past blooming and I have a couple dozen 'threads' of saffron in my kitchen now, right now they are fattening up and storing energy for their dormancy. They are, fingers crossed, also making baby corms. That means, in the coming seasons, I'll have more saffron. Now to learn to cook with saffron!

Also, winter sowing has started.

Now...if my Witch Hazel will just bloom for me this year. It looks like a bunch of sticks, but a little bit of bark removed shows green underneath. So maybe it will bloom this winter?

Now off to cut out my first block for the BOM!
