Food and Fiber Friday - Making Ghee and Other 'New' Things

Last week I decided I would give making 'ghee' a spin. While millions of people use it daily, I was really interested in giving it a try. One of the aspects of ghee was the fact it is shelf stable and I could kept it out on the counter for months. Plus, it is supposed to add a bit of a 'nutty' flavor to a dish. And if you buy it at the grocery store, it's not cheap.

There are several sites online which tell you how to do it in a crock pot so you don't have to watch the process over several hours. That seems easy enough to me. And with butter (the real stuff) on sale at the grocery store, I decided to give it a try.

I seem to find myself more willing to try new-to-me items. I made Bloody Mary Mix and next on my list is using lentils.

Ok...give me a break...I am a tried and true Southern gal who grew up with a big, blue can of Crisco. It wasn't on the kitchen counter, but close enough. What was on the back of the stove was the big tin can for bacon grease.

After looking at a few recipes and talking to a friend who uses lentils all the time, I am really interested in checking them out for make faux-burgers with them among other things. So I will see how that goes.

What I am really enjoying is pulling a meal out of the freezer and having little else to do but warm it up.
I need to start thinking about October's meal prep!
