Bookish Thursday - We Burned So Bright by TJ Klune

I am in a quandary.

Usually when I have a book I feel is a 5-Star read, I am eager to share my recommendation. However...

We Burned So Bright by TJ Klune has me needing to add an asterisk to my recommendation.

The premise of the book is fairly simple. Don and Rodney are in their early 70's (I'm near there myself) and have been married for 40 years. They are faced with one final task which will take them from Maine to Washington State before a black hole destroys Earth.

It's only 170 pages - so basically, an afternoon read. An old camper. A gay couple. Should be simple, right?

Well...

Along the way down backroads across the United States, they encounter people who are handling the situation in various ways. Between looking at death, pending death, from different points of view, you get a glimpse into the life Don and Rodney have lived together as gay men through the decades.

Klune does give trigger warnings before you start the book. And because I am of an age of Don and Rodney, it does give me a look back at the world in which I have lived. It also makes me think about what I would do if I was in such a situation.

I highly recommend the book. But be aware of your own mindset/space when you start reading it.
