Tongue Twister - World's Largest Larch Tree

After our beautiful hike on Saturday, we made a quick detour just up the road to see the world's largest larch tree.  Nestled in a grove of other old larches, Gus is quietly rooted and on that day, enjoying the warm sunshine.

That's him, in the middle there, with the dead top.  I guess if you are 1000 years old you are entitled to a bit of 'baldness' at the top.  You can see on his trunk (and on the trees around him) evidence of past fires through the area.  Makes you wonder what all he has seen in his long life.

Here's to Gus - long may he reign!
