Writing Wednesday - Save the Cat! Beat Sheet Workbook by Jamie Nash

Ok, so Save the Cat! Writes a Novel by Jessica Brody is one of my favorite books on how to structure my idea into a more cohesive story. And now, there is a workbook to go along with it!

I was pointed in the direction of this new book by WOW-Women on Writing with the opportunity to be reimbursed for purchasing a copy. I figured I had nothing to lose. Good or bad, I had a free book.

And, boy! Am I glad I took advantage of the opportunity.

First off, the book is very interactive with a series of activities to get you thinking about your 'why' you are writing what you are writing. There are several exercises leading up to the meat of the book - actually working on your story idea.

Then it leads you to selecting the type of story you are writing and leads you into further exercises to really knuckle down on creating a great novel with a compelling story.

I do have to note: This book will also work for a screen play also.

That all said, I have to set the book aside for a bit. I am working on the If You Cook, You Don't Do The Dishes and it's a memoir cookbook, so it really doesn't fit for this workbook being nonfiction. However, it is spurring me on with that project in order to get to delve into this workbook.

My plan is to 'save' it until October where I will work through it for my NaNoWriMo story for 2023 - which I already know will be a revisit of an earlier story.

So far the only drawback of the workbook is with it being interactive I will need a new one for every story idea I want to work on!
