Band Night
After more than a week of 95 or higher degree heat with matching humidity, the all day marching band camp is over. Now it's evening only practices and games and competitions.
Trumpet Princess is doing great. Personally, after watching these kids several times over the past couple of weeks (I was on hand to give out water, cold wash clothes and Popsicles) I have to give them all credit. They worked like Trojans, despite the heat.
What I can't figure out though is how the same people who can't remember to pick up clothes off the floor can memorize several songs, learn a 10 minute marching routine and do the two things at one time.
This year's marching band theme is "Arlington...Where Valor Never Rests". This is just up her alley, she has always loved patriotic music. They have a field trip this coming week and are going for a day trip which will include Arlington Cemetery. They have permission to lay the wreath at 12n at the Cemetery.
During the performance last night, we started off in the auditorium where they played several of their tunes. They, of course, opened with the Star Spangled Banner. Ok, so I am peri-menopausal, but there were many a tear in the audience after they played it. It was beautiful!
Trumpet Princess was also one of 6 trumpet players picked to do a rendition of the Flag at Iwo Jima during the performance. She is all over herself with this.
Back to cleaning up my room now!
