Week in Review - July 19 - 25, 2021

And what a week it has been!

My lead at work was in Tennessee training a new store on how to cut fruit and veggies, so it was basically just me at work.

On Monday, huzzah! We got about 2 inches of rain. Now if we can repeat for this week. It is nice to get enough rain so that I don't have to water in the evening.

Tuesday was the first of two days in the kitchen. I roasted several pounds of tomatoes to make sauce and can it. I started with about 10 pounds of tomatoes and ended up with 4 quarts of sauce (plus a bit). Then on Wednesday I made 14 pints of salsa using a friend's recipe. Wednesday afternoon I dropped off sauce and salsa for Savvy and her assistant manager. Thursday, on the way home, I dropped off another quart of sauce and pint of salsa to my old GameStop manager.

My 'big' thing was untangling a skein of yarn. Since it was an expensive skein which I bought for a gift for a friend, I couldn't just toss it into the trash. Three nights of watching TV and slowly unweaving the mess (how it got there I have no idea) I was successful. And then, once I started knitting the shawl, the pattern was coming out 'weird'. Then I actually READ the directions and realized I was skipping the repeats! Dummy me! So out came a couple of inches of knitting and I started over. I have 3 full repeats of the 8 needed for the first section done now. And I am loving the texture being created. This pattern will definitely be done again - for me!

Then on Saturday, a friend I have known for almost 30 years (yikes!) came with her sister from Raleigh. They were attending an event and her husband is also buried in Gastonia. Actually, he is only 3 miles from me and somewhere I pass by at least once a week going to Bush-n-Vine. So we had lunch, they came to see my forever home and we went and laid flowers on his grave.

I received a lovely piece of horsehair pottery which is on my altar now as a house warming present. I drool over horsehair pottery and this is my first piece I own. I want more.

We had a lovely visit and plan meeting up more regularly.

I picked up a jar of jam at Bush-n-Vine this week. Strawberry Split - a combination of strawberry, maraschino cherries, pineapple and chocolate flavoring - all the flavors of a banana split without the banana (or ice cream). Interesting. I have to try it and see if I want to try and duplicate it.

I have been saving tomato seeds from a few varieties. And I am loving my Split Second Morning Glory and will hopefully save some seeds from it.

Otherwise this week...

  • Walked 22.9 miles
  • Lost another pound - down a total of 11 pounds
  • No drive-through food!

This coming week...

  • Crafty program at the library
  • Finishing up a book for a blog tour post
  • More canning of tomatoes (have harvested about 50 pounds of tomatoes so far)
  • Setting up my planner and Kanban board for August

In the meantime, it's breakfast time!
