Bookish Thursday - End of 2022 Wrap-Up

It's the end of 2022 and how have I done this past year 'between the pages'? I borrowed some questions from BookTube to wrap-up my reading this year and to give a hint about what is going to happen in 2023.

1. Are there any books I started this year I need to finish?

HAHAHAHAHAHA

YES!

I am a multi-book reader. I will pick up and start a book and then flip over to a second book and a third book and maybe a fourth book. A lot of it has to do with several factors -

  • Is it a book I need to read for a review?
  • Am I in the mood for the current book or do I need to switch?
  • Am I reading for entertainment or to learn something and my brain needs to absorb what I'm learning before continuing on?
  • Did a new 'shiny object' come along and tempt me away from what I was reading?

2. Do I have any books to transition into 2023 with?

Lots! But not because they are 'winter' books or 'spring' books. I want to start Jade War because I want to continue on with that series. There are some books I need to read for book blog tour reviews.

3. Is there a new release I'm waiting for?

Once again, yes!

I have two books which will be released in March (hopefully) and I can't wait. Both I have pre-ordered already. The first one is Smolder by Laurell K. Hamilton and The Queen's Price by Anne Bishop. In May, Martha Wells, my Murderbot author, has a new series coming out, Witch King. So three books (so far) in 2023.

By the way, while I did not support the kickstarter by Brandon Sanderson (couldn't afford it), I do have the 4 books on preorder. They are not as 'anticipated' as the 3 books above.

4. What are the 3 books I want to read before the end of the year?

All of them!

I do have one book I need to read so a book blog tour, but other than that I am good with what I have been reading so far and am on no deadlines to finish.

5. Was there a book which shocked me and could become my book of the year for 2022?

Fairy Tale by Stephen King, along with When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill and Once And Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow.

Yep, I can't pick just one. 'Dragons' and 'Witches' because not only were they just good reads, but also because they were about women being empowered and came across my reading list at a time when women were losing some of our rights.

But the one which I went into with some hesitation and really, really enjoyed was Fairy Tale. I have read a couple of King's books in the past and they have scared me. And I know the premise behind several others, and I know they would creep me out, so I haven't read them. But this one grabbed me from the start. Maybe it was the dog aspect of it.

I had the book and got the audio version since the book was so thick. The narration was great and I had to plow through this book mainly to see what happens to Radar, the dog.

6. Have I started making reading plans for 2023?

Yes!

Lots and lots and lots of plans.

Some of the things I want to do in 2023 with regard to reading -

  • Use my Kindle app on my iPad more
  • Post more reviews of books I read
  • Read my backlist! Or at least knock it down a bit.
  • If I 'win' a book or buy a book, read it immediately!

So there you have it, 2022 is basically over with and I have completed reading 152 books. Not bad. For 2023, I plan on reading 150 books (or more), so stay tuned!
