Bookish Thursday - Santa's Slip Up by Raven Howell

Anyone who knows me and my family - forget Christmas and Thanksgiving, we are all about Halloween! And black cats.

So I was lucky enough to be able to review Santa's Slip Up by Raven Howell. (Which is especially interesting, considering Lady K, now 10, advised us she has known the truth about Santa for a while now. And is currently into horror movies.

Anyway, business first...

Book Summary

It’s the night of Halloween. Spooks, spiders, and skeletons abound, the full moon glows – so who is cheering, “Ho, ho, ho!”? Apparently, Santa Claus has come to town, though it’s the wrong time of year! But what could be a bad situation, is wittingly handled with humor, and there’s a new winner at this year’s Halloween parade

For fans of Room on the Broom and The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything.

Now, my opinion...

First off, not only does it start out with a black cat (Nox in my household is solid black, Reggie is a tuxedo), but there is this cute illustration by Savannah Horton...

I didn't have one of Slider chewing on his rawhide bone, but you can get the general idea. I think maybe the author has been spying on my household!

This is a really cute and simple book. Even at 10, Lady K thought it was a fun read. And why shouldn't Santa take advantage of Halloween!

There are mentions and illustrations of vampires and goblins and the like. However, they aren't scary, scary. This would be a really fun book for a kindergarten group up to maybe second grade. I can see this being popular in a group reading, discussing costumes and going trick-or-treating. If I was still working at a library, I would definitely be pulling this book out for the 'babies and books'.

But since I'm not, and despite knowing a friend could use it when she substitutes at school, this will remain with me as part of my annual Halloween into Christmas decorating. After all, there is another little one on it's way!

Now I need to finish up my Halloween decorating!

But check out what others think of this adorable read...

  1. Two reviews in one day! Good grief, I had no idea that I had booked you that way. Oopsy, on my part. But I love both reviews! Thank you for taking so much care in your posts.
