Positive Focus Sunday - Happy Mistakes
If you garden and especially if you love the overgrown, lush, spilling everywhere type of garden. Actually, if you are more 'hands off' gardener, as far as weeding, things tend to pop up in spaces where you least except them. And right outside my front door is one of my largest 'happy mistakes'.
These sunflowers are growing up in the hole of the bricks. They were 'planted' by me throwing out bird seed for the birds over the winter and spring. I like to throw some seed on the ground as I have a lot of mourning doves which visit my yard.
And speaking of birds visiting my yard...
While I don't have any trees big enough for nesting, I do in the yards around me. But with my windows open, the sound of birds is constant. They visit the feeder often. I have a pair of cardinals which are nesting nearby. I think they are the couple which have been around for a couple of years now.
A robin pair have been visiting my yard. I know they have a nest, again this year, in the curve of my neighbors gutter downspout. But they come over and check out the yard for bugs. As long as they my berries alone, we are doing well.
The only issue I seem to have with 'wildlife' in my yard is my own dogs! Especially Slider. Thus, I am having to be careful to fence off some of the things I'm growing. I thought he might leave the things in buckets alone, but alas, big dogs can pee up high! So putting some fencing up around areas where I need him to keep out of. And moving bucket from the walkway into the herb garden where he can pee. Let him pee on the fence and the weeds. The Mexican Tarragon will survive, it's nice and bushy for the most part. I'm hoping the Ornamental Oregano will make a comeback. Stupid dog.
But I love to see 'volunteers' coming up in the garden. Well, except for the morning glory vines. I am on a watch for them. They had taken over everything last year, so I wish I had a dollar for every emerging vine I pulled. I could then hire someone to pull them for me!
There are also a couple of rogue tomato plants. I am pretty sure they are the Mexico Midget and one is in with one of my pepper plants. I'll let it grow on out.
I am embracing these 'Happy Mistakes' in my yard!
