Week Ahead - May 5-11 - It's All About the Garden

Fingers crossed, I will have the remaining 5 big veggie beds cleared and planted. Of course, I have to do it the hard way and be changing up the layout of the garden area this year, in addition to removing a TON of grass and weeds.

However, what I am removing from the beds is going into my beds where I have some pumpkins, squash and melons planted. Using it as compost/weed suppressant.

My biggest problem is going out into the yard with a plan in mind and getting distracted by another task. But this week it will be focused on getting the remainder of the tomatoes in the ground, planting beans and corn and flowers in the beds. Luckily, the weather is going to be a bit cool this week, staying in the low 70's which will help.

I am encouraged by what is already planted. Things in the ground or in pots are doing beautifully. Plants, like my elder bushes, have taken off. My peppers are some of the best I think I have ever grown so far.

So a quick cup of coffee, then a refill and out into the yard for me. Ruby and Slider and loving me being home full time and spending more time outside. Ruby does a quick 'patrol' and then lays on the porch in the sun. Slider divides his time between checking on me and helping Ruby guard.

There are a couple of things on the calendar this week where I will be leaving the yard. Lady K has her spring band concert this week. I have a Master Gardener board meeting and a Cricut class at the library. So not every minute will be spent outside.

I am finding I can go out in the early morning and spend 3-4 hours outside. Then my energy is gone. It's inside for a lunch and a nap and the afternoon is in-house chores.

But for this week, the focus is on the veggie garden. I would love to see some emerging plants this time next week!
