Bookish Thursday - This Week's Most Active Reads
Actually, my reading time has decreased somewhat as I sew and watch the Tour de France.
However, what I am reading is pretty good.
But my favorite is one I am listening to and I am trying not to 'gobble' it down as I have to drive to/from Savannah again on Sunday is The Devil At This Elbow by Valerie Bauerlein.
While I am fairly familiar with the whole Murdaugh debacle, I had to read listen to even more. And I am so glad I did.
Not only does the book contain more background information leading up to and including all the tragidies which have transpired over the past few years, but Maggi-May Reed, the narrator, is fantastic. This book, when finished, will definitely be a 5-star read.
The third book in the series, Onyx Storm is a bit of a slog.
Like the first two books, I feel a good portion of it could have been edited out. I feel like it just goes on and on over the same type of 'angst'. But I have invested too much time and effort not to finish the book, even though I have a pretty good idea of how it will end.
A delightful palate cleanser is We'll Prescribe You A Cat by You Ishida.
Can I say how much I am loving the books being translated and coming out of Japan? Much like Before the Coffee Gets Cold, it is a small book in page count, especially when placed against something like Onyx Storm.
I love the fact it is divided into bit-sized pieces of various stories or chapters. I find myself reading a chapter and then stopping to think about what I just read. They are calming and just delightful.
Unfortunately, all these books coming out of Japan, which involved coffee, tea, bookstores and/or cats is causing me a serious struggle not to collect them. I may have to stop resisting as they are books which I will definitely go back and reread.
There will be a still swerve in my reading this coming week as I have one book I need to read for a library True crime book club and another for an upcoming book blog tour. And of course, more cycling watching and sewing!
