Bookish Thursday - Finding Fran by Nancy Christie

Oops!

This was supposed to be a book review. Instead, I am asking you to check out the book before I finish reading the book myself! I had an e-book copy rather than a physical copy and it completely slipped my mind (which isn't hard to do these days).

So...

I apologize to Nancy Christie for not getting her a 'real' review, but to urge you to check out her book and to also check out all the other goodies on WOW-Women on Writing.

First, a bit about the book and the author...

Book Summary

Once a best-selling romance novelist, 55-year-old Fran Carter is now dealing with a slow but steady drop in book sales and a major case of writer’s block, complicated by the knowledge that her lover, a professional photographer, has been on the wrong side of the camera (so to speak) with his models. (So much for her author brand, built on the premise that women in their fifties and beyond can still find love and happiness.) Her solution is to spend a week in isolation at a northern California bed-and-breakfast. There she hopes to resolve her professional and personal conflicts, and ultimately create a new and better future for herself by writing a new “story” for the Fran she wants to be!

Now my opinion...

As someone in her mid-60's, and an avid reader, I do get tired of book after book where slender, beautiful twenty-somethings save the world. I want to read a book where the characters are closer to my age and have more relatable issues. I have two dear friends, both 'later in life' and widowed, who are dismayed with the prospect of not only figuring out life as a single after being married for decades, but also how to deal with dating in the 21st century.

Once I stop hanging my head in shame, I will definitely be reading the book. And going back and reading her first book in the series, Reinventing Rita.

But for more opinions - from people who have actually already read the book - check these out...
