Big Read Kickoff!
Last night was the kick off at the Lewis and Clark Library for this year's Big Read - featuring Tom Sawyer. Savvy and I were there to lend a hand for set up and break down of the event. Our hard-working Adult Services Librarian was worried no one would show up based on the fact it had been 'drizzling snow' all day (nothing was sticking) and her fears were laid to rest. We had a very nice crowd.
So, all in all, it was a great night for our kickoff. All month long, tons of lectures and events featuring Mark Twain and Tom Sawyer-themed programs. Savvy will be doing face-painting on the kids on Saturdays and Halloween.
Come check it out. And you can even participate online at TomSawyerBigRead.
There was a give-away table, with books, programs, a map for the month-long event and little treasure chests, filled with a bandana and gold chocolate coins.
Savvy served up apple and cherry pies. The lady she's talking to here is a fantastic quilt designer I have been fortunate enough to meet and know.
Lady K showed up with Texter and "B" and was dancing to the Clancy Jammers who were playing in the lobby.
Everyone was waiting for the lecture to start, given by Craig Hotchkiss of the Mark Twain House. We underestimated the crowd size and had to set up a few more chairs for the lecture.
