Writing Wednesday - Queen of the Middle Court
While my word count is still mainly in my head, I have been 'working' on my book. It has really expanded and morphed from a pretty simple storyline to something much more complex, and I feel, much more interesting.
All Laurel wants to do is to create a safe haven for herself to create and work on her textile art. Somewhere she didn't have to deal with people and could remove herself from her evil step-father.
Then she starts getting inundated with fey. Fey who need a place to be safe. Laurel understands the need to be safe. So she agrees to create a sanctuary for them. The first attempt doesn't take and now Laurel must rely on other people to help her create the necessary magic to nail down a safe haven for misplaced pixies and demi-fey. And dwarves, gnomes, brownies, ogres, trolls...
And did I mention centaurs?
Who knew her local quilter store was the home of a coven? It does explain the great quilts which are created there.
The Seelie, or Court of Light, is really pissed off by her plans. Fey who don't fall in line with the Queen of Light need to be reminded who is in charge. The Unseelie, or Dark Court, is actually rather amused by it all. While not exactly aiding her cause, they aren't standing in her way. After all, the Dark Court has been outcast for centuries.
But 'Fairy' decides for everyone. 'Fairy', as in the mound where fey reside outside the mundane world. Fairy who doesn't answer to anyone but itself. Fairy who decides after Laurel...
Well, that's where Laurel becomes Queen of the Middle Court.
