Bookish Thursday -

Yes, another book blog tour! And I am loving the books I have been offered a chance to review by WOW-Women on Writing

But business first. About the book...

Book Summary

The most dangerous lies are the ones that use the truth to sell themselves.

Medical treatment determined by artificial intelligence could do more than make Hope Kestrel's career. It could revolutionize healthcare.

What the Seattle surgeon doesn't know is the AI has a hidden fatal flaw, and the people covering it up will stop at nothing to dominate the world's healthcare — and its profits. Soon, Hope is made the scapegoat for a patient's death, and only Jacie Stone, a gifted intern with a knack for computer science, is willing to help search for the truth.

But her patient's death is only the tip of the conspiracy's iceberg. The Director, Marah Maddox, is plotting a use for the AI far outside the ethical bounds of her physician's oath. A staggering plan capable of reducing human lives to their DNA code, redefining the concepts of sickness and health, and delivering the power of life and death decisions into the hands of those behind the AI.

Even if the algorithm accidentally discards some who are treatable in order to make that happen...

Now for my opinion...

First, I have to say this is a timely subject about AI (artificial intelligence) and its implications. Especially now, when there is a lot of conversation going on about the AI and creating art, music and books. And while these are important questions to be asking, they are not as threatening as AI being used to diagnose and threat illnesses. Like many things, AI is only as good as the people who use it. And if you have someone whose only concern is the 'bottom line', then there could be issues and in this case, a matter of life and death.

Secondly, I didn't think I would be drawn into the book like I was. Being only 303 pages, this is a book you can probably read in a day or two. But Helen and the questions she is asking and the situation she is in? Well, it really makes you stop and think. If Helen had not asked or just accepted what was going on, it would have been a completely different story and outcome.

A good read and one I was glad I had the opportunity to read. It has stayed with me and made me asked some questions about just how far we want AI to be involved in our lives.
