Positive Focus Thursday - Fitting In

I am in love with my local library branch, the Beatties Ford Road Regional Branch.

Not only did I go in almost immediately upon arriving in Charlotte, but we have been going 2-3 times a week. And not just to check out books!

Lady K has been reaping the benefits of their many programs.

We have gone to 'Seed-to-Feed', where the kids are learning healthy food choices and how food gets from the garden to the table. They even have four 4 x 4 plots behind the library, growing a variety of vegetables and herbs and we will be planting two of the plots next week.

Oh, and did I mention I'm volunteering already? Yep, I'm watering the garden during the week and on the weekends, depending on the rain we get.

Then this past Wednesday Lady K and I spent most of the afternoon there.

We went for 'Jump Bunch', which was a variety of fun exercises for kids and stayed for the African Dance class.

Not only did she get to 'dance', but I wish we had started attending when it started last week. The history behind the dances is absolutely fascinating.

But one of the best things is how welcoming everyone has been.

We met Miss C a couple of weeks ago when her girls (and one boy) attended the 'Make and Take'. As it turns out she runs a 'camp' for the girls and boy during the summer while their mothers are at work (they are all single moms). They go get their hot breakfast and lunches through the school and then they come and take advantage of the activities the library offers. She charges $45 a week (which is super cheap) and $5 of that she puts aside for the kids so that at the end of the 11 weeks, they have $55 for a special treat.

She also makes sure they get in some reading time and allows them to spend a bit of time of the computers at the library. They have snacks they bring with them.

But she has included Kayden in her group when we meet up at the library, even though she is younger than the other girls. Miss C requires good manners, good behavior and you don't disrespect her in the least. And she does all this, even using a walker to get around.

Hopefully, there might be a trip to Carowinds with everyone as the summer winds down and school starts.
